Acim is an acronym for Active Christ Intention. Helen Schucman is usually described as the “saintess of prayer,” and is credited with having founded the Insight Meditation School. From this background, it may be expected that her first book would contain some useful information about meditation. In this first publication, she introduces a new concept called the “acme.”
A Course in Miracles is actually a 1976 book by Helen Schucman called A Course in Miracles. The underlying theme is that the best “miracle” a person can have is the spontaneous act of receiving a full awareness of the presence of God in his/her life. Schucman claims that this awareness can come to anyone who wants to obtain it, through prayer, meditation, and self-reflection. Her reference to the “eternity” in this book is often misunderstood.
Schucman presents a course on the “Acme” which consists of three sections. In the first section, “The Secret Garden of the Lotus Buddha,” she teaches the reader to meditate on the inner peace that only a relationship with the Lord can bring. In the second section, “The Great Tree,” she teaches the reader to meditate on the Three Treasures of heaven, while at the same time, showing examples of how people are using the treasures in daily life to assist themselves. Finally, in the third section, “The Boat of Fishes,” she introduces a method for applying the “three treasures” to daily life.
Unlike many of the other works written by Helen Schucman, “Acilbum acim.” (The Call of the Earth) does not present the reader with only one set of “miracles.” Instead, the author includes a number of different “miracles” and “thetford” throughout the course of the book.
The majority of the book consists of short essays and stories, each dealing with a single “thetford” or “miracle.” For example, in the first essay “Shiva,” Helen Schucman presents an ancient Hindu legend about Shiva and Parvati. Shiva was sent as a messenger from God to save Parvati from the demon Narakasura. But Shiva failed and Parvati later married her rival, Narakasura. When Shiva arrived just in the Nick of time, Parvati magically disappeared from Shiva’s sight, which left him speechless.
The “Acme” courses offered by HELEN CHUCAN are excellent sources for studying the underlying mysteries of reality. But what about the claim that “acim” means nothing real? Does this mean that there is nothing true? Does this mean that “acim” does not stand for anything concrete, such as logic, goodness, beauty, goodness, truth, goodness, and virtue? It seems these are questions HELEN CHUCAN, along with millions of others, have been asking since time immemorial.
